It's that time of the year again..
Yes, since everyone else is doing the traditional end of the year survey, I suppose I should follow suit. Especially since I have nothing better to do at 1:30 in the morning than to sit at my computer updating my LJ.
1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Went to Europe (twice!) - once as a chaperone on a major field trip (also a first) and again on an independent trip with Beth.. I never felt like such a big girl in my life!
I also started coaching colorguard, which was a big question mark at first, but I really loved it and can't wait for next year!
2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions and will you make more for next year?
My resolution is to stop making resolutions and that seems to be working out for me pretty well.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Uuummm.. man, I'm going to be in major trouble if I leave someone out, huh? My mentor teacher Christi had her baby in March and my cousin Christy had her baby innn... October? I can't keep up with these people.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Papaw passed away in July, just over a week after I got back into the States. It was horrible and I still get pretty upset about it sometimes, but I'm thankful that my family is so close that we can rally around Granny and each other to get through this hard year of "firsts" without Papaw.
5. What countries did you visit?
France (twice!), Spain, and Switzerland.. it was quite the year of travel, and I really wish every year could be like that!
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
For the love, where is that hot boyfriend I've been looking for, hmm?? He's out there somewhere, probably lost. Also, I'd like to have my own apartment at some point, maybe a Wii, maybe another niece or nephew? Come on Ben and Julie..

I read Brian Welch's testimony Washed by Blood and that's definitely one I would recommend if you enjoy autobiographies. In the Nicholas Sparks category, I thoroughly enjoyed A Bend in the Road. Sometimes, you've just got to be a jerk. And it's okay, as long as you're not doing it to put someone down, but just to put them in their place haha This is my Philosophy of Teaching.
Be careful on the metro, their are pickpockets EVERYWHERE in Barcelona!
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
The leader of the band is tired
And his eyes are growing old
But his blood runs through
My instrument
And his song is in my soul --
My life has been a poor attempt
To imitate the man
Im just a living legacy
To the leader of the band.
This was the song that described everything we felt about Papaw's death.. and not only does it describe how much our whole family looked up to him and imitated him.. It also shows me how I'm a living legacy for a Savior whose blood runs through my instrument. He gave me talents and a song to sing and I had opportunities this year to be a blatant imitation of the ultimate Man I want to be. Not only is this song a bittersweet reminder of the patriarch of my family, but it's also a gentle reminder of who I really should be trying to imitate in life.
1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
